Day Classes

Our Day Classes include a popular series of Introduction days for beginners, progressing to two-day or three-day classes giving an opportunity to explore a technique in more depth. There are also opportunities to learn about colour and design to enhance your appreciation of embroidery, and fun days in many techniques to stimulate your imagination and creativity.

For example, you can explore designs and stitches of other cultures in the World Embroidery series led by experts in their field. Starting in 2010 with Persian Islimi designs in March and Peruvian embroidery in July, the series will continue over the next academic year with Turkish, Central Asian and Mexican embroidery.

Please bring a thimble if you use one, sharp embroidery scissors and a pencil and notepad. On a one or two-day class you will be supplied with a design and pack of materials. These kits are an additional cost to the class fee and vary with each technique, typically from £12.00 to £35.00.   On a three-day class it will be your choice to purchase a supplied kit or work on your own project. For any class where kits are not supplied, you will be advised what to bring with you, but we will always have a selection of materials for sale in the classrooms. Equipment such as frames can be loaned or purchased in the classroom.

Short Courses

More detailed than Day Classes, but not as highly technical as the RSN Certificate, these Short Courses are designed to explore a technique in depth one day a week for six weeks. The programme includes museum and gallery visits to research the history of the techniques and see how designs have developed over the centuries. These are combined with an introduction to practical design skills, so you can create and stitch your own 21st century version of a traditional technique.
