The term apples to a variety of techniques ranging from the bold stitches of Mountmellick and Hardanger to the delicate work of Ayrshire and Fine White embroidery. Traditionally worked with white thread on white fabric and used for bridal and christening wear and ecclesiastical embroidery.  Whitework techniques adapt well to contemporary designs and the introduction of colour.

Introduction to Mountmellick
An Irish technique worked on firm cotton with matt threads of various thicknesses to produce a textured effect. Ideal for newcomers to Whitework.

Introduction to Broderie Anglaise f
A delicate technique using cutwork and satin stitch to achieve lace-like effects. Work a roundel to make into a lavender sachet. For beginners to Whitework and also more experienced stitchers.

Creative Hardanger
Traditionally worked on even-weave fabric using counted and drawn thread this is Hardanger with a difference! Work a small panel for a scissor keeper or needle book in a mixture of perle, plain and space dyed threads and beads.  A creative class which covers the basics of Hardanger. Suitable for beginners and experienced stitchers.

General Whitework
Learn some fundamental skills of the exquisite art of Whitework embroidery. Either work a decorative sampler in the key techniques; or study a specific technique, such as shadow work, broderie anglaise or cutwork, in greater depth. The skills learnt can be used on decorative items for the home, to embroider garments or to create beautiful personalised gifts. Designs provided. Suitable for beginners.

Fine White and Ayrshire
Study the art of Fine Whitework where delicate designs are created on two layers of fine linen with a layer of net in between. The design is worked using a range of stitches and textures before cutting away areas of the linen to facilitate working drawn and pulled thread stitches and net darning patterns. Or work a piece inspired by 19th century Ayrshire work which is very suitable for garments and gifts. For stitchers experienced in Whitework.
