Innovative part-time Short Courses commencing September 2008.
Introducing exciting new courses for anyone who wishes to explore embroidery in detail and master techniques to a high standard. These courses are ideal for people who cannot commit to a full-year course; pre or post-degree students; gap year students and individuals with a love of embroidery. Study three days a week over six weeks.
- Discover embroidery in historic and contemporary contexts
- Lectures and technical tuition by leading experts
- Museum and gallery visits
- Develop an understanding of the design process
- Experiment with design and stitch
- Research access to the RSN's Collection
Course 1
8 September - 17 October 2008
Crewelwork
Code: 43
Study the history of crewelwork including the importance of the Tree of Life as a predominant image. Learn to draw plant forms and formalise and stylise designs. Research and experiment with colour and stitch before working your embroidery.

Join Archivist Dr Lynn Hulse for a weekend of specialist-led lecture tours to explore the textiles at Hardwick Hall and Chatsworth House. This special visit forms part of the Crewelwork Course but may be enjoyed as a separate event.
