Although we undertake some conservation work, the RSN is not a conservation studio, our specialism is stitching to a high standard. If you wish to have a family heirloom conserved and archived there may be more suitable places to look but we will happily discuss your project with you.
Clients come to the RSN when they want an item to remain in use, such as christening robes. For example, we may be asked to arrange cleaning, make repairs and often add the name or initials of the next child to be christened on to the gown, so it becomes a living piece of family history.
We also specialise in handling samplers. Again, we can organise cleaning, support holes and stitching, and prepare a sampler for framing so it can be enjoyed for many more years.
We have specialist knowledge of tapestry conservation, working with skilled independent conservation cleaners we can then help to replace stitches and stabilise worn areas.
Our main area of expertise is with projects that require any kind of stitching, whether in repair, restoration or conservation techniques. Some cleaning is undertaken in-house, but we also work with a team of off-site independent specialists, and where questions of conservation arise we consult with appropriate specialists.
