Silk has been used in embroidery for even longer than wool, making its way across the Silk Route from China. It has been used in embroidery not only because it takes colour well, but also for its sheen and ability to be worked very finely. It is particularly beautiful when used in silk shading. The RSN was recently asked to produce a contemporary Tudor Rose in silk shading which was displayed at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
